Bruno: The First Reviews Are In

"...the funniest movie I have seen since, well, Sacha Baron Cohen's last. Unmissable."

Following the French premiere of Bruno, British tabloid The Sun has released the first review of the movie, almost a month before its official opening.

The verdict? Well, that's hard to say. It's certainly shocking, from what was written. It's definitely controversial, based on what we've already seen thus far. And according to The Sun, it does seem to be pretty funny. But maybe in a hide-your-face-to-make-sure-no-one-sees-you-laughing kind of way.

Critic Gordon Smart writes, "To say 'Bruno' makes uncomfortable viewing is an understatement of Battle of Britain proportions. When I wasn't giggling like a 14-year-old, I was cowering behind my hands."

In the opening scene, Bruno is fired from an Austrian fashion show after his all-Velcro suit brings the show to a screeching halt. Smart exclaims, "The scene is utterly brilliant and wipes the smiles from the faces of the snooty fashion world."

But the rest of the film is not-so-G-rated. Among the most cringe-inducing moments is a sure-to-be-infamous "pygmy sex scene." Smart claims that it "is one of the most horrific incidents ever committed to celluloid. I'm talking fire extinguishers, champagne bottles and mechanically-adapted fitness equipment. Teenage boys should under no circumstances watch this with their parents."

For fans looking for celebrity guest stars, Bruno does not disappoint. According to The Sun, "the musical climax, with cameos from Chris Martin, Bono, Sir Elton John, and Snoop Dogg, is a fitting finale."

In conclusion, Gordon Smart says, "[Bruno] is the funniest movie I have seen since, well, Sacha Baron Cohen's last. Unmissable."

Bruno hits theatres on July 10.
